As an English Middle School teacher, you will be responsible for teaching English to our middle school students. The role will involve planning and delivery of lessons and demonstrating excellent classroom practice to ensure that all students develop both written skills and spoken communication.

You will have to meet the expectations of the school for evaluation, assessment and reporting progress.

Working with the Leadership Team and other colleagues in the school including the Student Support teams, you will contribute to the mission and vision of the school and ensure that the children are working towards being global citizens who can shape the world.

The person will be flexible, and willing to support the wider life of the school, and actively contributing to the development and growth of English Gate School.

Main Responsibility and Accountability Areas

  • Promote the ‘mission’ and philosophy of the school, ensuring that children are working towards being true global citizens.
  • Be flexible and adjust to the needs of the school, actively contributing to its development plans and growth.
  • Implement agreed school policies and developments.
  • Demonstrate thorough curriculum knowledge, teach, and assess effectively.
  • Meet requirements for the assessment, evaluation, and recording of students’ development.
  • Implement AFL to evaluate how well learning objectives have been achieved and use this to plan future learning.
  • Use the student tracking and monitoring processes to advance children’s learning in line with the school’s aspirations and priorities.
  • Mark and monitor student work providing clear constructive feedback and steps for improvement.
  • Work effectively with other colleagues to support student learning
  • Ensure that students have the opportunity to develop independent and group learning.
  • Take responsibility for and contribute to professional development as well as actively engaging in performance management, lesson appraisals and peer observations.
  • Effectively communicate the school's key messages and values, be an ambassador for our school at all times. 

Planning and Classroom Management

  • Organise the classroom and learning resources to create a dynamic learning environment.
  • Identify clear planning objectives, content, and sequence of lessons in line with the curriculum and appropriate to the educational needs of the students.
  • Plan, prepare and present lessons that motivate students and that cater to the range of needs and set appropriate and challenging expectations for students’ learning.
  • Identify and plan for students who may require additional support (EAL, SEN)
  • Ensure planning shows clear understanding of the year group expectations and leads to progression; 
  • Maintain good behaviour management in the classroom, promote a positive attitude to learning.
  • Offer all students equal opportunities to learn and maintain an environment in which no student is exposed to discriminatory behaviour.
  • Provide feedback to administrators and parents on a student’s progress through regular progress reports, including daily communication, meetings with parents/guardians when appropriate.
  • Keeps up to date with developments in the subject area, teaching resources and strategies and incorporate the relevant changes to instructional plans and activities.
  • Liaise with colleagues especially the DSL and well-being and work flexibly within the school teams.
  • Supervise the work of the teaching assistant (where applicable) and participate in their professional development.
  • Support the life of the school beyond the classroom.
  • Be committed to participating in co-curricular activities.
  • Undertake the planning and organisation of day trips within the Key Stage as required.
  • Support all school events such as productions and assemblies.

Your profile

EDUCATION & TRAINING:

  • Bachelor of Education degree (or equivalent);
  • Qualified Teacher Status or international teaching qualification;
  • Qualified to teach children of Secondary school age;
  • Mother tongue English or C2 level.

EXPERIENCE & OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum of two (2) years’ experience teaching in a Secondary school;
  • Demonstrates creativity and a passion for teaching and a strong work ethic;
  • Experience with innovative teaching and learning;
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, problem-solving, negotiation, and mediation skills;
  • Commitment to the mission and vision of the school, the academic and co-curricular directions;
  • Be enthusiastic, energetic, and able to nurture unique learning experiences for students;
  • Able to thrive in a collaborative, flexible and supportive team environment;
  • The ability to share outstanding practice;
  • The ability to develop inclusive classroom practice across the school;

  • Independent/International and coaching/extracurricular experience are all assets.
