We are looking for a European Languages Teacher at the Canadian School of Florence who will be responsible for the planning, delivery, and evaluation of the Ontario European languages curriculum to our students in High school. The candidate will ensure that the programs are relevant, engaging and fit for purpose.
Teaching & Learning
• Plan, deliver, and assess high-quality instruction in:
o English (Academic/ destreamed levels)
o English as an Additional Language (ESL/ELD courses)
o French as an Additional Language
o Italian as an Additional Language
•Design engaging, culturally responsive lessons aligned with Ontario curriculum expectations;
• Teach stacked (combined grade-level or proficiency-level) courses when required;
• Support students at varying language proficiency levels using differentiated instruction;
• Integrate explicit literacy strategies to strengthen:
• Reading comprehension
• Academic writing
• Oral communication
• Vocabulary development
• Critical thinking and literary analysis
• Scaffold instruction to support multilingual learners in accessing grade-level texts and tasks.
• Use assessment and evaluation practices consistent with Ontario Ministry policy and Growing Success guidelines.
• Foster inclusive, respectful classroom environments that value linguistic and cultural diversity.
Student Support & Collaboration
• Support students’ academic, linguistic, social, and emotional development;
• Collaborate with subject teachers to support cross-curricular literacy development;
• Contribute to Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and language learner support plans as required;
• Communicate effectively with parents/guardians in an international context;
• Participate in school-wide initiatives, interdisciplinary projects, and professional learning communities;
• Engage in co-curricular and community activities that enrich student experience.
