Role Overview

ICS Milan is seeking an experienced and forward-thinking Learning Support Coordinator (Whole School) to lead and shape inclusive provision across the whole school, from Early Years to Secondary.

This is a strategic leadership role within our IB context, offering the opportunity to design, embed and continuously refine a coherent, high-impact model of inclusion that enables every student to access the curriculum with dignity, appropriate challenge and increasing independence.

Working closely with Senior Leadership, Programme Coordinators and pastoral teams, the successful candidate will strengthen inclusive teaching practice, ensure robust compliance for access arrangements and assessment accommodations, and build staff capacity across the school.

We are looking for a confident and collaborative leader who combines strong pedagogical expertise with the ability to drive whole-school improvement and foster meaningful partnerships with families and specialist professionals.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership of Inclusion

  • Lead the planning, implementation and evaluation of the whole-school Learning Support programme across Early Years, Primary and Secondary.
  • Define clear annual priorities, impact measures and quality assurance processes.
  • Establish and maintain a consistent case-management system, including referral, screening, support planning, review and exit processes.
  • Coordinate Learning Support staffing, deployment and timetabling to ensure equitable and efficient provision.
  • Chair regular inclusion meetings to review cases, prioritise support and agree next steps.
  • Contribute to whole-school strategic planning in collaboration with Senior Leadership.

Identification, Assessment and Graduated Response

  • Oversee early identification processes through structured referrals, teacher observations, screening tools and data analysis.
  • Interpret specialist reports, including psychological, speech and language and occupational therapy assessments, translating recommendations into practical classroom strategies.
  • Ensure a graduated, multi-tiered approach to support, including quality-first teaching, targeted small-group interventions and intensive individual provision.
  • Monitor the impact of interventions and adjust provision where required.
  • Support student transitions across phases and between schools, ensuring continuity of provision.

Personalised Planning and Documentation

  • Lead the development, implementation and review of Personalised Didactic Plans and other support plans as required.
  • Ensure plans are practical, measurable and consistently implemented by teaching staff.
  • Maintain accurate, secure and compliant documentation in line with confidentiality requirements and Italian regulations, including BES and PDP processes.
  • Monitor implementation and evidence of impact across classrooms.

Inclusive Teaching and Capacity Building

  • Coach and support teachers in curriculum adaptation, differentiation and inclusive assessment practices.
  • Promote high-impact strategies for executive functioning, working memory, attention and self-regulation.
  • Work closely with EAL colleagues to ensure coherent provision where language acquisition and learning needs overlap.
  • Design and deliver professional learning to strengthen inclusive pedagogy across the school.
  • Support induction of new staff into ICS Milan’s inclusion framework and procedures.

Access Arrangements and Assessment Accommodations

  • Coordinate the identification and documentation process for access arrangements within IB, IGCSE and internal assessments.
  • Maintain a compliance calendar for evidence requirements, approvals and deadlines.
  • Work closely with Programme Coordinators and the Exams Officer to ensure consistent and confidential implementation.
  • Ensure all arrangements are properly documented and aligned with IB and regulatory expectations.

Partnership with Families and External Specialists

  • Act as a key liaison between families, teachers and external professionals.
  • Facilitate student support meetings, ensuring clarity of provision and agreed next steps.
  • Support families in understanding school processes and accessing specialist assessments where appropriate.

Policy, Safeguarding and Compliance

  • Ensure alignment with relevant Italian educational regulations within the Scuola Paritaria framework.
  • Contribute to the development and review of inclusion policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with safeguarding and wellbeing teams to ensure appropriate escalation of concerns arising from Learning Support work.

  • Experience within an IB context, including familiarity with access arrangements and inclusive assessment policies.
  • Ability to interpret specialist reports and translate recommendations into classroom practice.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organisational and communication skills.
  • Fluency in English.

Desirable

  • PYP teaching experience.
  • Familiarity with Italian Special Education legislation and BES/PDP processes.
  • Proficiency in Italian.
  • Experience in an international school setting.

Personal Attributes

  • Passionate advocate for inclusive education.
  • Strategic thinker with strong organisational capability.
  • Collaborative and culturally responsive.
  • Able to inspire, support and mentor staff across all divisions.
